Background

The eldest son of Christopher and Katherine Anne Summers, brother of Alex, Scott Summers suffered the loss of both parents at the young age of 10 when his father's plane was attacked by a Shi'ar scout ship. The brothers were saved when their mother pushed them out of the plane with the only parachute, but the burning fabric meant he suffered trauma that affects him to the present day.

Decided to be orphaned by the authorities while he was in a coma, Scott and Alex were placed in the Sunset Home for Foundlings under the observation of Mister Sinister in order to conduct experiments on them. After Alex was adopted by a family, Sinister disguised himself as another orphan, Nate, as a way to befriend Scott. His headaches increased and Sinister attempted to suppress Scott's emerging powers, using the opportunity to experiment on repressing them and trying to groom the young man with various subtle and devious methods.

Once older, Scott ran away from the orphanage with conflicting reports as to why; suffice to say his growing powers became problematic and anti-mutant hysteria grew to a boiling point at the same time, causing an angry mob to chase him. This caught the attention of a few parties, one of whom was Jack Winters, a mutant criminal. The man attempted to exploit Scott, but was stopped by Professor Xavier who built him a ruby-quartz visor to control his blasts and invited him to become the first member of his new X-Men, a team of mutants sworn to the peaceful co-existence of humans and mutants.

Optic Blast
Scott has the ability to project concussive ruby-colored blast from his eyes, but with no inherent control over them, he has to wear ruby-quartz eyewear (goggles, glasses, combat visor) or close his eyes to prevent the destruction of everything around him. The combat visor can control the beam, focusing it down to a point or widening it in an arc to cover a broad area. The energy produced by the beams has been measured at well over 2 gigawatts (larger than a nuclear reactor) and described as being able to “punch holes through mountains”.

Spacial Awareness
Due to his inability to see without his protective eyewear, Scott has developed an innate sense of awareness of items around him, which he has honed into an ability to ricochet or reflect his beams off other items, to the point of bouncing it off over a dozen surfaces in one shot and hitting his target perfectly.

Energy Resistance
Scott is resistant to the effects of his own powers, and due to the quirky genetics of being a mutant, he is also capable of withstanding his brother's ability with little to no ill effects. This enables him to close his eyes and prevent the eye beams from destroying everything around him.

Master Tactician and Strategist
At his core, Scott is a soldier and a born leader. Most of his life as a superhero has been as the leader of either the X-Men or X-Factor, and despite any problems others may have with him, those under his command obey his orders in the knowledge that he is usually right.

Expert Pilot
Like his father before him, Scott is an excellent pilot of fixed-wing aircraft, possibly due to his enhanced sense of spatial awareness and ability to calculate angles in moments. Along with Ororo, he is often seen as the main pilot of the X-Men's Blackbird aircraft.

Expert Martial Artist
Scott has extensive training in various forms of unarmed combat, holding black belts in Judo and Aikido. He has honed these skills even with his eyes closed (due to his inability to control his blasts without eyewear) to the point of being able to defeat six normal men under those circumstances. Matched up against such dangerous opponents as Wolverine or Ghost Rider, he can hold his own for a period of time.

OoC

Story over pure smut (but it doesn't hurt to ask; smut in context is fine).
Public first, then private (although public may sometimes be an issue).
Story consistency (bruises/injuries/experiences within an RP will stick around, among other things).
Snark (you will get shit from Scott and his writer - it's not personal, it means he likes you).

Scott Summers is a canon character from Marvel Comics (Earth-616). Faceclaim is Matt Bomer.
IRL: Taken, not looking.
Inlines and image manipulations by me.
I am working on my familiarity with the character. I may make mistakes. I am open to constructive criticism (“you're wrong because X, you should have done Y because Z”) but will ignore criticism without merit (“you're wrong” and “you suck”).
