Background

Pat Mulligan, Officer in the NYPD

Patrick Mulligan, latest in a long line of Officers in his family, was in the wrong place at the wrong time, heeding the call of duty for an explosion caused by Carnage as he birthed the new symbiote. He was the first to notice the crater was caused by Cletus Kasady, the weakened murderer choosing to implant the newborn symbiote in the officer.

Toxin, Son of Carnage

Every thousand symbiotes, one is born with the possibility of a mind break. Carnage bore the thousandth symbiote, during a fight with Venom. The elder symbiote was trying to save the offspring while Carnage was trying to destroy it. Venom saw a possible ally and partner, where Carnage saw something dangerous.

Unknown to the officer, he was now something more than the sum of the parts. The officer's morals meshed with the symbiotes naivete, creating something less than a killer, less than a hero, yet to come into its own. While Pat was still struggling to understand what was happening to him, he saw the other symbiotes battling over his future, his wife and unborn child dashed to their deaths.

With the help and guidance of Spider-Man and Black Cat, Patrick, along with Toxin, became a force for good in New York City, blending the strengths of the symbiote with the morals of a police officer. Patrick still struggles with the nature of the symbiote, while Toxin still struggles to be unlike the others of his kind. Together they can make the city a safer place.

I'm a decent guy. Used to be a cop. Now I've got a crazy symbiote using me as a host. However hard I try to educate it, whatever I do to bring it up properly, it misbehaves. And it brings out the worst in me. It's destroying me. What do I do? What's the answer?

Strength, speed, stamina, agility, durability. Even when he was young, Toxin (while bound to Officer Mulligan) showed superhuman strengths similar to previous symbiotes. He grows even more formidable as time went on. These strengths are fuelled by his emotions, growing in size when he loses his temper or something upsets him. Looking somewhat like Spider-Man in his natural state, he can grow large claws and vicious fangs, looking more like the symbiotes most people are aware of.

Toxin can mimic the appearance of his surroundings or any form of clothing. This gives him the ability to hide in plain sight, even looking like someone else in the process, giving him impressive stealth abilities.

Just like Spider-Man, Toxin can cling to virtually any surface and rapidly crawl, walk, or run across even the slickest of surfaces. He can use this to make it into some of the strangest, inaccessible places.

Another thing Toxin shares with Spider-Man, he can eject a sticky organic web-like substance that he can use to bind and immobilize people, or even to swing from building to building. His webbing is incredibly strong, stronger than the normal webbing known to be used by Spider-Man.

ꋪꏂꍌꏂꋊꏂꋪꋬ꓄꒐ꄲꋊ

As with all symbiotes, Toxin can heal at ridiculous speeds, giving Mulligan the ability to tank stronger hits than any human should be capable of, then heal back to full health.

Once bonded with Toxin, Mulligan can effectively act as his own K9 unit, having the ability to track anyone (not just symbiotes) as long as he had something of theirs to pick up a scent from. He can also block other related symbiotes' ability to track him psychically with an expenditure of effort.

You know how Venom used that guy as its host? And then it gave birth to Carnage, who entered that other guy… Cletus Kasady. A nastier piece of work you won't see. We-ell… Carnage gave birth to a child. A symbiote child called Toxin. And Toxin, like I guess all symbiotes, needs a human body as a host.
