Clint Barton

   See that symbol in the main inline? That's the sign for 'coffee'. The motion is the one you would make using a coffee grinder (the top hand makes a circle around the edge of the bottom, which stays still). The set of seven hand signs above? That's 'Hawkeye', spelled out in individual letters.

   Clint Barton is deaf, can lip read, wears hearing aids, and can sign American Sign Language. This was left out of the MCU portrayal of Hawkeye, but the Earth-616 portrayal, particularly Matt Fraction and David Aja's run, showed him working as an Avenger despite this disability. Even better, Hawkeye #19 is almost entirely written from his point of view as a deaf person, not being able to hear and having to lip-read and sign to understand what's going on. Unlike most media that shows most deaf people to be able to lip-read well, it's not so easy to do in the real world, with even the best lip-readers only able to read 40% and filling in the blanks.

   I'm not deaf, but I do have other disabilities. I have no idea what it's like to be deaf, other than what I see in media and what friends have told me. I'm trying to portray a deaf character through the medium of text, so please, bear with me.
