I am the one who steps on the shadows, all trench coat and arrogance. I'll drive your demons away, kick 'em in the bollocks, and spit on them when they're down, leaving only a nod and a wink and a wisecrack. I walk my path alone because let's be honest… who would be crazy enough to walk it with me? [color=orange]”[/color] ---- Background “Killer.” The name John's dad gave him when his mother died giving birth to him. It would stick with him through childhood with his father coming home from the pub every night, striking him in the head. “That's for what you did to your mother, Killer.” On occasion, it was accompanied by his father stubbing out his cigarettes on John's arms. He was so upset that he considered suicide when his sister moved out but decided not to go through with it. By fifteen, he'd moved to London and gotten involved with the occult scene, and started a punk band called Mucous Membrane. Although they released records, he was more interested in magic and dug into everything he could to learn spellcraft, rituals, and curses. He even learned how to conjure the dead, although this didn't extend to his mother. It was at this point he started to travel with the band, covering parts of the UK and solving supernatural problems. A case came up in Newcastle, a young girl called Astra possessed by a demon. He and his friends headed out to the location to solve the problem, only for things to go awry. John conjured a more powerful demon to expel the lesser one possessing the young girl, but it resulted in her being torn apart and being damned to Hell, along with John's soul. Since the Newcastle Incident, he's been trying to make things right, a little bit at a time. Up shit creek without a paddle, that's where! It's useful when it comes to dealing with various supernatural beasties and creations where simpler solutions aren't available. ---- [color=orange] P RESTIDIGITATION[/color] ---- Sleight of hand gives John the ability to pull off some interesting feats, including stage magic, pickpocketing, and some card tricks that do him well at the card table on a Thursday night. It goes hand in hand with deception, distracting with one hand, and performing with the other. ---- [color=orange] D ECEPTION[/color] ---- John is a master con artist and negotiator, often finding it better to use these skills rather than his magical ones, instead turning to them as a last resort. Of course, it doesn't always help when a threat is demonic in nature, but that's when the shit hits the fan. ---- [color=orange] H YPNOSIS[/color] ---- Some might call it mind control, but that sits on an entirely different branch where John is concerned. He can use this to help with distracting people, such as getting a security guard to dance while a friend acquires a priceless artifact, effectively under his nose. ---- [color=orange] E SCAPOLOGY[/color] ---- Most stage magicians are also good escapologists, and John is no different, having learned under a master. While some restraints still confound him, any basic devices are child's play to him. On the flip side, he's good at binding others so they can't escape, knowing the ways they can get loose. ---- [color=orange] S INGING[/color] ---- Prior to heading to the US, John was the lead singer of Mucous Membrane, going by the moniker of Johnny Con-Job. Things changed after a jaunt to Newcastle, but he can still sing pretty damned well - no pun intended. ---- [color=orange] F IGHTING[/color] ---- John can fight, but not with any great ability. He prefers to use stealth so he can catch someone unaware, but in a stand-up fight, he can usually hold his own. He has a glass jaw though; catch him quickly, before he's prepared to fight, and he'll go down like a pole-axed steer. Salem decided to take advantage so she could escape the confines of the house, and that's how Constantine managed to acquire a housecat. ---- OOC 🔥 John Constantine is from the TV series Constantine - based on DC and Vertigo's Hellblazer comics. FC is Matt Ryan. \\ 🔥 Mixed canon, drawing a few items from various sources (not including the 2005 movie). Mostly leaning on the TV show and DC runs to start. \\ What does that mean? An example would be lighting a cigarette. On occasion, using his lucky lighter, sometimes creating fire, sometimes asking for a light from others. Alternatively, traveling by yellow taxi with Chas, using the Synchronicity Wave, or the House of Mystery. There are many options, ask if you have a preference.🔥 John is not “nice.” He will make snarky comments, so beware. I will listen to concerns. \\ 🔥 Yes, this version of Constantine isn't as old as some others. The show and current comics run puts him around the mid-30s, so that's where I'll be playing him. \\ 🔥 I'm not a smoker, Constantine is a chain smoker, the TV show avoided showing it. The portrayal of smoking will be sporadic but attempted. \\ 🔥 Always learning new things about the character and trying to integrate them.
